Summertime, and the living is easy
With the Jacaranda and jasmine heralding the temperate spring months here in the Gauteng highveld, the stage is set for outdoor concerts. In particular, we get to do one of our favourite types of performance, the garden house concert.
These concerts are always a treat to put on, as they are relaxed and intimate, and we have the opportunity to work with our hosts to help them to create magical memories for their guests, to show off their lush gardens and enjoy the fragrant spring air. And, of course, there is usually some delicious fare on offer too!
We also find it inspiring to meet and speak to our hosts, who are invariably music-lovers, and who put concerts on for a variety of reasons. In the past week we have had the privilege of putting on a concert for a close-knit group of investment professionals based in Pretoria who were welcoming a new partner into their ranks and celebrating with dinner and a concert along with the families of other members of the firm.
In the same weekend we were also able to enjoy the stunningly-maintained gardens of another Joburg resident who is an active member of a local gardening club and was hosting a fund-raising event for a local children’s charity by opening their home and putting on a concert.
It is always a pleasure as travelling musicians to get a small glimpse into the world of the people we play for, and humbling to know that our music can play some small role in bringing people together, be it to celebrate or to rally around a good cause.
